

The Traits system offers over 100+ character affects, ranging from temporary (i.e. Sainthood), and still others are given for zealotry, bastardization, etc. Some bloodline traits are activated as a result of the current game year, others are as a result of events (i.e. for Jewish cultures loans have 0% interest). The faction view provides you an overview of any potential slanderous factions within your holdings. The intrigue tab features the “decisions” options which mostly deal with bringing new courtiers. The military tab deals with your army and vassal’s levies as well as acquiring mercenaries. The third tab has the technological advances section which can affect taxation rates, armies, vassal relationship improvement, and more. The next tab has the legal options including taxation, succession, army and taxation. Within the council, each counselor has three “actions” generally one research, a defensive, and an offensive/real growth ability. The first, and likely most important, is the council which is made up of five advisors with varying skill ratings in diplomacy, martial, stewardship, intrigue, and learning. The current lord has access to a multitude of different options in running their realm. If you’re particularly good at getting along with the religious folk (piety) you can actually get special permission from the pope to invade a country as the “rightful heir”. Make sure to utilize everything available to you (especially the intrigue options), we’ve killed a few kings surprisingly easily and set their realms to civil war. It is almost impossible to win every battle, so you have to take a long approach to win the war.

The biggest source of frustration (as well as motivation to keep playing) comes from the requirement to make trade offs.
